Identity

Identity Portrait
Head Flower (16'',16'',7'')
Scarf (12'',4'',0.01'')
Corset (48'',16'',0.3'')
Materials: Paper, hot glue, masking tape

I used paper to create a look that is glamorous and classic while also being extravagant and whimsical. I started by cutting up a pice from my last sculpture and added a bit more paper to create a corset. Next, I cut out a bunch of ferns but only ended up useing a few as a small scarf. I wanted to make the look bigger, so I made a giant paper flower and attached it to my head using bobby pins. In addition to this, I decided to ware a black skirt and a pearl neckless.

I have grown up surrounded by nature and have always been into its whimsical features like flowers and fairies. The outfit has that sense of nature with the black skirt being like the soil, the textured corset being the grass, the ferns and pearls being leaves and berries, and the flower at the top. I have also found myself always drawn to fashion and creating things to ware that are non conventional but can still be pulled off and seen as beautiful. I think that reflects myself because I am not the most conventional person, but I have found if I am confident in what I do, I will be able to either pull it off or know to keep trying.

Below is a picture of me (right) and my sister (left). I had almost forgotten about it, but I had made my sister an outfit out of paper over ten years ago. Dressing up and making outfits is part of my identity and is something I have loved doing ever since I was able to play dress up.
